Bienvenidos a Pachuca!

I am spending the summer in Pachuca, Mexico teaching English with three other girls: Christina, Hannah, and Savannah. We are volunteering for International Language Program (ILP). We arrived in Mexico this afternoon and I am loving it so far! It is absolutely gorgeous here. All of the homes are so colorful and the mountains are green and lush.

The principal of the school we are teaching at picked us up from the airport. His name is Guillermo, he speaks English fairly well and is actually LDS too! He drove us to Pachuca, then showed us the church we can attend, the school, and our apartment.

The school is so cute! It is very small and called Galileo Galilei. We also met Guillermo's wife and another lady who works at the school. They are so nice. Everyone greets each other with a hug and kiss on the cheek. That is definitely something that I will need to work on. I feel very awkward doing it, and the old lady laughed after my awkward attempt with her. By the end of the summer I will probably be pro... hopefully.

Our apartment is in the basement of a family's home about ten minutes from the school. The mom is Pilard and her two adorable children, Abby and Andres, attend the school that I will be teaching at. Our apartment consists of two rooms, a bathroom, and kitchen. One room has a bed and closet for the head teacher. The other room is the living room and has two sets of bunk beds for the rest of us. My bed is extremely comfortable. It is a super thin mattress and the springs poke me in all the right places. The kitchen consists of a small fridge, broken microwave and oven, and a working toaster and stovetop.

I am so freakin' excited about spending this summer in Mexico. I got to talk to the previous head teacher, Tristan, and she has told us some awesome stuff about vacations and teaching. I can't wait to meet the kids and start teaching on Tuesday! I am pretty nervous to teach, but fake it til you make it, right?
