Our First Week Teaching English

We started teaching this week. It has been quite the adventure. The first day was just plain chaos. We teach groups of 6-8 kids. The groups are divided by age, and they are anywhere from 3-9 years old. On the first day everyone was just testing their limits on how bad they could be with the new teachers. It was so crazy! I was really questioning my ability to teach English 5 days a week for four months.
Each day has gradually gotten better since then. I am learning the kids' names, and they are learning that I am the teacher and there is no messin' with me!

The kids did a Mother's Day program this Friday. It was super awesome. They sang, danced, and did a skit.

The theme was 50's rock and roll. The boys all looked like little studs, and the girls were absolutely adorable.
The one holding the girl at an awkward distance is Gustavo. We're not supposed to have favorites, but he definitely found a special place in my heart already.

David sang a solo, and he's gonna be a lady killer with that smooth voice of his.

These little kids are the cutest, but they can be little devils in the classroom.

So they did a skit, and it was extremely confusing from the standpoint of an English only person. The mothers were laughing though, so apparently it was an entertaining skit.

After the students were done performing, we watched the youngest children while the mothers ate and the teachers finished off the program. It was really fun to play with the students and not worry about having to teach them anything.

Well, wish me good luck tomorrow. We are singing in church... in Spanish... it's supposed to be memorized too.

Check out "We Accidentally Joined the Choir" for the story about that one. It's a good story. :)
