We Accidentally Joined the Choir

Today was our first Sunday in Pachuca. We were told that the meetings started at ten o'clock and noon. We decided to go to the ten o'clock one. Getting there we were about fifteen minutes late, but hey it's Mexico, everybody's late here, right? Well, we get there and open the door to walk into sacrament, and a guy comes up and closes the door on us and pushes us out. He asked, "What are you doing?" "Um, going to church," was our reply. "Well, yeah, but not in this ward."

We thought being a little late wouldn't be a huge deal, but apparently it's different in this ward. The guy did speak really good English which was impressive. He asked us what ward we were in and what we were doing in Pachuca. He told us to come back at 11.

So we went across the street to sit at the park until 11:00. We decided to show up early this time. And went there five minutes early. We were talking to some people and it was a little past 11, so we asked why church hadn't started yet. They said church didn't start until noon. I was kind of mad that the guy told us 11 and wouldn't let us into the other ward! Whatever, everyone has to get kicked out of church sometime in their life.

Anyway, Doris was the lady we were talking to and she invited us to come sing in the choir since we were there early. So we just decided what the heck, why not. We thought that we would just go to this one practice, but now they want us to sing in church next week for Mother's Day. Yuli is Doris's daughter and she leads the choir. It is very small, and the other ladies and girls in it are so nice. I feel bad just quitting on them... Well, we will see what happens next week.

It was a really interesting first day of church in Mexico. We got kicked out, joined the choir, and didn't actually understand much of anything that was said. It sure was an adventure though!
